However, rather than focus on the teams effort, all eyes were on Mourinho following the game after his over-the-top celebration of the goal, as he picked up a cage full of water bottles and hurled it to the floor.Uniteds display – which saw them spurn a number of great goalscoring chances – was slammed by pundits, with club legends Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes particularly scathing, while Gary Lineker fumed at Mourinhos frustrated reaction to an early Marcus Rashford miss.4

But he cut down his other high-profile critics in general when asked about his animated touchline behaviour when Rashford faltered in front of goal.The manager failed to disguise his irritation following the England starlets fifth-minute miss, turning to his bench and the Old Trafford crowd and shaking his head in disgust.Lineker said he would have been absolutely livid had, as a player, he saw his manager react in such a way, while Ferdinand questioned: What kind of message of confidence does that send to Rashford?Mourinho responded: “Can myself or another manager have a reaction of frustration? I would invite that people to sit on the bench as managers.“But I think maybe it’s better to have lots of holidays in Barbados and go to the television screen and touch the electronic dummies.4

“I think it’s much, much, much more comfortable than being on the touchline like we managers we are.“I am pretty sure that a proper football manager would never criticise another one for emotional reactions on the touchline because it’s deja vu for them.“For the ones that have a nice life, it’s different.”
