Gabriel Jesus still has work to do despite ending his Premier League goal drought in Manchester City’s defeat of Everton.Jesus, the Brazil international, netted either side of half-time, with Raheem Sterling adding a third for Pep Guardiola’s side after Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled a goal back for the visitors.2

Jesus was too much for the Everton defence on Saturday

The win fired City back to the top of the Premier League table – possibly only temporarily, however, with Liverpool not in action until Sunday – but Jesus’ enjoyment came from him finding the back of the net in league football for the first time since August.Prior to Saturday, Jesus had scored just one Premier League goal – against Huddersfield on matchday two – and Guardiola was delighted the Brazil international rediscovered his shooting boots.Though he insisted Jesus still has work to do to improve, even if he has the scoring touch once again.“I am happy first for his English” Guardiola told Sky Sports. “I think he made his debut with you (the media). “That’s good, I like that. I insist they have to learn English so he did well.“He’s a young player, has to improve many, many things, but today it’s going very, very good for him.“For his confidence, to score these two goals was so important – both were nice goals so big compliments for Gabriel.”2

Jesus had to wait almost four months between scoring his first and second Premier League goals this season

Manchester City can do nothing to prevent Liverpool returning to the top of the table on Sunday, and Etihad hopes rely on local rivals Manchester United taking something off Jurgen Klopp’s side.Guardiola will still be tuning in for the clash, however: “It’s a nice game to watch. Of course I will watch it.”
