England will play Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.The draw was made on Monday afternoon, with the Three Lions pulled out of the pot against Ronald Koeman’s side.

They will meet in Guimaraes, Portugal, and the winner will play the victor of the other semi-final between the hosts and Switzerland.The ties will take place on June 5/6, 2019, with the third-place play-off and final to be played on the 9th. The Netherlands finished top of Group A in the first phase of the Nations League, beating both Germany and world champions France to first spot in a tricky group.They won both of their home matches, but struggled on the road with a defeat in France and a draw against Germany in Gelsenkirchen.England and the Netherlands have met on 21 occasions previously, with the head-to-head record equal so far (six wins each, nine draws).The most recent meeting between the two nations was back in March, with a lone Jesse Lingard strike securing a friendly victory for Gareth Southgate’s side in Amsterdam.2

England and Netherlands have not met in a competitive match, however, since Euro 96, when the hosts ran riot against Oranje at Wembley to claim a 4-1 group stage win.Current England manager Southgate played the full 90 minutes of that famous clash, though his opposite number Ronald Koeman had retired from international football two years previously having won 78 caps for his country.2
